Fatal injuries arising from accidents at work in Great Britain: Summary for April to June 2022

A statistical count of in-year workplace deaths where the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) is the relevant enforcing authority.

These statistics cover work-related fatal injuries that are reportable under the Reporting of Injuries Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) where HSE is the relevant enforcing authority and are updated on a quarterly basis. These statistics will not fully align with the listing of in-year work-related deaths reported to HSE  [In-year names and details of fatalities (hse.gov.uk)], as they have been subject to further validation to confirm whether the incident is reportable under RIDDOR based on current investigation findings.  However a consequence of providing detail that is as up-to-date as possible is that many of the cases listed are still under investigation and the decision on reportability may not have been reached . Therefore, these statistics are released on a provisional basis and may be subject to revision as more accurate information becomes available.

These ‘in-year’ figures exclude incidents where Local authorities or Office of Rail and Road are the relevant enforcing authority. [These cases are included in the annual count published each summer.]

The term ‘workers’ includes employees and the self-employed combined.

As from 2015/16, the member of the public death statistics no longer include ‘patient and service user’ deaths in England for premises registered with Care Quality Commission (CQC)
